High quality German taps with black oxide coating. You need good taps to thread steel and aluminum. Bad quality taps usually go off and it is almost impossible to get them out of the hole. Buy good taps if you are going to thread in steel or aluminum. We have tried many taps before we decided on this ones, they maintain a very high quality while being affordable.
You can use a screwdriver when you thread but keep in mind that if you’re stuck, the tap can go off. Set the screwdriver to torque setting so that the machine stops turning if you get stuck. Use grease or oil after each hole, regular cooking oil works well.
