Raw Avantic Extended AI

Extended AI is a stronger version of the Raw Extended model. Like an Extended machine, it is a more powerful version than a Raw Avantic machine, which means that the construction is so strong that it can have its own chassis instead of standing on a table. Aluminum Profiles are specially designed by us and manufactured in the factory only for this machine. The Z-axis construction has been rebuilt so that all electronics can be hidden behind protection from dust and shocks. The side motors have also been built in and are completely protected. The electronics box has been given a stronger design and with handles so that you can easily move it without risking the box being damaged. The side construction is stronger and more stable.

Difference between an Extended and an Extended AI
Extended AI has about twice as strong electronics and hybrid servo motors that never lose their position. The motors and the electrical box communicate with each other so that they can give instructions on position and any faults. If one of the motors loses steps, the electronics box gives instructions to the motor to find its way back. If you push on a axis, it bounces back as soon as you release it. The system also monitors cables so that if any cable or component fails, the entire system stops, and you can easily see where the fault is. The motors can also notify the electronics box that something is wrong and cause the entire machine to stop. Each motor can be programmed individually, and you can change settings for how sensitive the system should be, etc.

This is the closest we can get to a steel-constructed machine. With this machine you can mass-produce parts in a professional environment and with incredible precision. The weight is only 300kg for the largest machine. To run the machine, a standard 220 socket with 10 Ampere is enough

  • It is not difficult to operate the machine. All the text below makes it look complicated but it’s simple.
  • The machine is controlled with any Windows computer via USB port and a program called Mach3 or UCCNC.
    If you do not already have it, you must select it in the drop down menu above. The files you want to cut are set in a so-called CAM software. We include a simpler CAM software called Vcarve Cut2D Desktop that you can upgrade if you want. Read more about the software below.
  • You can draw simpler models in the CAM software we include with the machine, if you need more complex parts you can use whichever CAD program (drawing program) you want, the machine is compatible with most drawing programs on the market.

What can I cut with a Raw Avantic Extended AI?

Soft wood, hard wood, Mdf, plastic, aluminum, steel, Sign production, 3D carving and engraving etc. Note that aluminum and steel is difficult to learn how to cut and there are better machines for it such as laser or water jet. If you only want to cut aluminum or steel, you should look at more expensive industrial machines. We have cut thousands of meters of Aluminum ourselves with the machines, but it is difficult to learn. The machine is mostly for hardwood, wood, and softer materials such as plastic. Do not buy the machine if you are only going to cut in metal.

Avantic is delivered with a full 20mm wide guide rails and blocks of Hiwin type. Most machines in this price range use 15mm, but we think that 20mm gives a more stable machine. Guide rails have an extreme precision that ensures that the axles do not have any “play” Guide rails are preferable to other solutions.

On each block (12 pcs) there is a grease nipple. You can choose to lubricate the machine through them or use spray lubrication that you spray on the rails themselves.

The consumable table consists of rails and valchromat so that you can attach your workpieces more easily. The table is easy to replace when it wears out.

Vacuum
We have chosen not to work with vacuum tables as it is impractical in a real work environment. As soon as you cut through the material (which you usually do) the material releases and can injure you or someone else. We will instead offer vacuum cups that you can place where you do not cut through. These vacuum cups are coming soon and can be purchased afterwards.

Is it difficult to work with a CNC machine?

No, it’s simple. Raw Avantic is one of the easiest machines to work with on the market. We have placed great emphasis on making the machines as easy to operate as possible. You do not need to have previous knowledge or education. The only difficult thing is to draw your parts, the rest is easy. Once you have cut your first piece, you will understand. The smaller machines (100×118 and 118x135cm) are available as desktop models, which means that they can stand on a regular table. This is cheaper and takes up less space. Select desktop model in the drop down menu above and the price will be deducted. Make sure the table you use is stable and straight. Note that you cannot select the larger machines as desktop but only the smaller machines.

The electrical box has been completely rebuilt for the Extended models so that they look and are more professional. The front and back are made of 4mm aluminum with 2 handles so you can easily move the box and slide it into a rack if you want. All connectors can be pulled out for any service if needed. 2.2kw spindle

2.2kw spindle

Avantic is delivered with a powerful, air-cooled 2.2 kw spindle with integrated inverter that is connected to other electronics. These spidles are strong, quiet and reliable. We use these ourselves and have done so for many years. With this spindle you can use inserts from 1-13mm (ER 20). We include a pair of end mills and so you get started.

Raw Avantic Extended has safety, homing and calibration switches for safety and precision. The switches are so-called Proximity switches that have no mechanical parts. Proximity switches are extremely accurate so that the machine can return to its “home” position with the best possible precision. The safety switches ensure that the machine cannot go too far, but stops the system and spindle as soon as the machine goes too far in any direction.

Precision



Precision

Precision is a balance between user and machine. It’s about how good your drawings are, spindle speed and how fast you cut. At a normal speed of about 2-4000m/min, the machine has the same accuracy as expensive industrial machines. Repeatability is: +/- 0.04 mm – 0.05 mm. The machine is built to mainly cut wood, plastic and similar materials. You can cut in aluminum but it requires experience no matter what machine you use.

Software

Cutting with a CNC machine requires 2-3 different software’s such as drawing, CAM (set the files you have drawn) and Control software (to run the file). You can choose between Mach3 and UCCNC to operate the machine. Read more below. We include a CAM software for this machine so you can get started easily. The CAM software we include also has an integrated drawing software for simpler models and you can do with these two programs in the beginning. If you grow out of the drawing software in the CAM part, you can use more advanced drawing software’s such as Auto CAD or Fusion360 and others. read more about the included CAM software below this box.

UCCNC or MACH3 control software, what should you choose?
The control software is the program you use to control the machine after you have drawn and set up your files. UCCNC is more modern than Mach3 but Mach3 has been around longer and contains more features. UCCNC is slightly cheaper than Mach3.

Pros and Cons
Mach3 is the best control software in our opinion but a program that will disappear since they do not update it anymore, but it is not needed, it’s as good as it can be.
Mach3 looks outdated but is the most used in the world, which means that there is more support and features. The disadvantage of Mach3 is that it is controlled with the printer port (LPT) and computers with LPT are no longer manufactured. We have a solution for this called UC100. UC100 converts LPT signals to USB so you can use Mach3 on a modern computer, read more below.

Mach3 with UC100
Select Mach3 with UC100 if you think you need other features such as optical camera, 4th axis or ATC. You will find codes as well as plugins for it quite easily but finding it to UCCNC bay be difficult at this point. The Mach3 option comes with a UC100 module that allows you to control the machine with any Windows computer. We include instructions on how to install the software and module

UCCNC with UC100
Select UCCNC with UC100 if you want a more modern user interface. You will have most features but installing other features can be difficult as the software is new. UCCNC will have all these features but it may be harder to find at this point. UCCNC is relatively new and new features are added gradually and it will most likely replace Mach3 in the future. UCCNC allows you to run on any Windows computer you want, new or old. As long as you have a USB port available.

NOTE that the tool used to calibrate height and edges (probe) does not work fully with UCCNC, you can only calibrate the height and not the edges. The latest version of UCCNC has these features but we have not had time to look at it.
You can do well without edge calibration as the machine has proximity switches that
zero the machine just as accurately.

Whatever you choose above, you can switch to another option whenever you want, the machine is compatible with all software that uses more advanced electronics.

The CAM software included in for this machine

The CAM software we include is a simpler version of Vcarve PRO which is one of the most used CAM software’s for a CNC machine. The software is called Cut2D Desktop and is somewhat limited but perfect to start with. You can later upgrade to Vcarve PRO if you grow out of it. With Cut2D Desktop you can cut out everything except 3D models. You can import Vector files that you find or buy online, engrave, and cut on both sides of the material etc. You can also import your own files that you draw in any drawing software as long as you get the file in .DXF format. All of this may sound complicated, but it is easy after you have done it a few times. See the instructional video below for Vcarve products. The parts you can cut out can be a maximum of 600x600mm so if you need to cut larger parts you have to upgrade the software to Cut2D PRO or Vcarve PRO, you can read more about it if you visit the product on our website.

The image above is of a Raw Avantic Extended AI where the motors are more powerful and slightly larger. On an AI model you can see the motor but on an Extended they are completely built-in. Both models have much better dust protection than on our previous models.

The Z-axis of an Extended machine has been rebuilt so that it is lower and has protected electronics. The cable to the spindle is now better protected. The probe socket is also more easily accessible than before.

The base/consumption table is now about 4cm thicker than before and makes the whole machine much more stable. this is important if you are cutting in tougher materials such as Aluminum or steel.

Raw Avantic is manufactured in Sweden and developed by us who previously worked as furniture carpenters. The machine came as an alternative to the expensive, heavy Asia machines that usually have a delivery time of 3-4 months and with questionable support. Delivery

Shipping a CNC machine is expensive, due to its size and weight. The prize on our site is the actual cost and sometimes less. You can use your own shipping company but let us know beforehand. If you have the opportunity, you can pick up the machine from us in Sweden.

You will also find manuals and video instructions on our website. You can call us at any time with questions and for help with setting up your files. We guarantee help and will not leave you with unanswered questions.

If you choose to have the machine sent, the larger 2000x1500mm machine will be slightly taken down. The smaller machines comes in one piece. Assembling the larger machine takes about 20 minutes and you will need:

-Screwdrivers
-Hex key 6mm and 4mm
-Someone who helps you, the parts are heavy

Tax
As a EU member you need to pay Swedish tax of 25% if you don’t own a valid company. If you own a valid company, you will need to enter your VAT number at checkout and the tax will not be added to the price. We will check with the registry to see that you have a valid company, if not we will have to charge you the tax even after delivery.

Why an Aluminum Machine?
Aluminum machines do not weigh as much as a steel machine. If you compare a larger Avantic that weighs about 150-200kg, a steel machine weighs up to 2 tons in the same dimensions.
A steel machine can only stand on concrete floors while an Avantic can stand wherever you want and can also be carried up or down stairs. A steel machine requires a truck that can unload 2 tons and wide doors, while an Avantic can be moved with a pallet lift and through doors. If the machine is in the way, it can be moved. Aluminum does not have the same precision as steel, but if you cut in wood, plastic or aluminum it will be more than enough.
