A CNC machine for professionals and hobbyists

Raw Creative is a simpler version of the Avantic model. Both versions are built the same way, but a Creative machine has different materials to keep the price down. As an example, the non-bearing plates are made of HPL instead of steel. HPL is a composite material that is very strong and has a density close to aluminum. The supporting plates, such as side plates, top plate and the plate that holds the spindle in place, are made of 6mm powder-coated steel. Compare that to other kits that usually have 3mm steel. The side profiles are also reinforced by rail control and rack which are made of steel. The X-axle boom has a 60x60x2mm steel profile that binds together the aluminum profiles which are additionally strengthened by the rail guide and rack which are made of steel.

Spindle and consumable table are not included on the Creative model, but this can of course be purchased. A Creative machine can use an ordinary edge cutter as a cutting head or a real spindle that you can start manually or connect to the other electronics according to instructions on our website.

Although the construction is slightly different, a Creative machine cuts with fantastic results and can be used in a serious work environment. Creative is built of high quality with guiderails, thick steel, industrial electronics and uses the same software as professional machines.

Save money by building the machine yourself

There are two versions of this kit, one that is almost ready-made and one where you have to assemble everything yourself. If you buy the machine ready-made, it comes in large pieces on which you build the final part. The electrical box comes pre-built in both versions, but you still need to run all the cables through the construction, which is easy with our instructions.

If you buy the kit completely unassembled, all parts must be assembled, but it is easy with our instructions. The unassembled version is perfect for those who have time, want to save money and enjoy building things themselves. We guarantee that you will be able to build the machine, if not, send us the parts and we will convert it to the fully built version.

20mm Styrskenor

15mm Guide rails

Raw Creative is built with guide rails that gives the machine the stability and strength that a proper CNC machine requires. Other machines in the same price range have plastic wheels that are more suitable for 3D printers and toys. guide rails are expensive, but we have pushed the prices down as far as we can go as we think it is the most sensible solution for a good machine.

There are 12 bearing blocks on the rails that can be lubricated individually.

Waste board

Wasteboard

You can choose to have rails or “hole slot” tables. We do not include waste boards in this product instead we include cutting files so you can cut out your table after the machine is built.

Rails and complete waste boards are available as a separate product. The table has two layers, a consumption surface and a base table. The consumption table between the rails is easier to replace than the holeslot. A holeslot table must be replaced completely as it wears, while a table with rails can replace the material between the rails where it wears.

The picture above shows a consumable table in black moisture-resistant MDF.

Stegmotorer

Stepper motors

We have chosen to use 3 Amps nema 23 motors instead of the weaker Nema 17 that many other machines have. The motors are so strong that a full-grown person could stand on the X-axis while the machine cuts.

The speed of Raw Creative is an incredible 40000mm/min, (see our video on Youtube) compare it to 4000-6000 as other hobby/semi-professional machines

The machine in the video is a small Raw Creative Extended and a prototype. The prototype received the suffix 2.5 but is today 2.0, just like with Avantic.

Kraftig Z-axelkonstruktion

Spindle/mill

We have adapted the machine for different mounts so that you can choose which cutting head you want. Raw Creative has such a strong Z-axis construction that you can also have a more powerful 2.2kw spindle. The machine can handle the weight without any problems.

No spindle or mill is included when ordering. You can have a regular edge cutter from, for example, Makita or Dewalt. A spindle with VFD is more complicated and needs to be wired. We have guides for this that you can take a look at after purchase.

The Z axis has both ball screw and rail guidance for maximum precision.

Calibration, Switches

Calibration, Switches

Raw Creative comes with 6 limit switches. Limit switches can drive the machine back to its “home” position and act as safety switches, so that the machine cannot damage itself if it goes too far.

If you choose professional electronics, the switches can also calibrate the machine 90 degrees at start. With Arduino electronics, this is done manually.

The machine has limit switches in all directions so that it stops in the event of an error

The machine can be upgraded with induction switches just like on our professional machines.

Precision

Precision

Precision is a balance between user and machine. It’s about how good your drawings are, spindle, rpm and how fast you cut. At a normal speed of approx. 2-4000mm/min, the machine has the same accuracy as expensive industrial machines.

Repeatability: +/- 0.01 mm – 0.005 mm, Backlash: +/- 0.01 mm

The machine is built to mainly cut wood, plastic and similar materials. You can cut aluminum but it requires the right settings regardless of the machine you use.

What is the machine made of?
The frame is made of aluminum profiles, reinforced with steel tubes over the X-axis. The linear steel rails and racks on all axles act as extra reinforcement of the profiles. The plates are made of strong HPL and 6mm powder coated steel for the more critical parts. Creative uses 4 motors instead of 3 so that each axle has its own motor for strength and accuracy. Together with industrial electronics, the machine becomes a workhorse that is built to work with. Feel free to compare the structure and price of this machine with other “hobby” machines and you will immediately see that a Raw Creative is in a completely different class. Raw Creative is probably the most well-built and strongest CNC kit on the market.

What can I cut with a Raw 2.5 Creative

Soft wood, hard wood, chipboard, Mdf, plastic, aluminum, Sign manufacturing, 3D cutting and engraving, etc. Note that aluminum are difficult to learn no matter what machine you have. We ourselves have cut 1000s of meters of aluminum with the machines, but it takes a couple of tries to learn.

Electronics

We deliver the machine with only industrial electronics as a choice, Arduino unfortunately works worse for this type of machine as the electronics need to be strong. You can instead switch to Arduino with our guides if you really want the machine with Arduino operation. The change takes around 20 minutes and costs about EUR 30. You only need to replace the drive board, everything else is ready. This type of machine is more complicated than Arduino machines (GRBL) and therefore we recommend that you stay with this type of setup so that you can calibrate the machine, Use tool changer, Plasma etc…

The electric box comes with strong drive modules and 24v power supply so the machine can run on 3A, Nema 23 motors. In normal cases, you usually have Nema 17 or 2A motors for this type of machine. The design of the electrical box allows you to easily switch to other electronics and control software by changing the control board board. The control board for this machine is only for Mach3, but if you change the control board, the machine is compatible with everything on the market such as Mach3, 4, UCCNC, Arduino, Linux or others. All you have to do is replace the circuit board, everything else is done.

Raw Creative fully compatible with all electronics that control Nema 23 motors.

To set up the machine
After your machine has been assembled, it must be set up with control software to be able to run. We have a guide for this on the same website where you build your machine. The computer must be version WINDOWS 7-10. The computer can be a laptop or desktop. The computer does not need to have high performance as it is only supposed to control the machine. We recommend that you have a separate computer to control the machine.

CE certified
All our machines have their own CE markings and are tested and reviewed by independent companies. CE marking comes with your kit and is linked to your order number. Without it, you cannot use the machine at the company or sell the machine. CE certificate shows that the machine is built with the right components and assembled in the right way. Buying a kit entitles you to build only 1 certified machine

Software

Note that you need to buy a license of Mach3 (found on our website) You can run the machine in demo version to see that everything works. The demo version can run short programs but has a limit of 500 rows.

Cutting with a CNC machine requires 2-3 different software such as drawing, CAM (set up the files you drew) and Control software (to run the file). You can find free CAM software or use Estlcam, which we can highly recommend. With Estlcam you can cut both 2D and 3D.

A slightly more expensive alternative is Vcarve, which is both a drawing and CAM software. We use Vcarve ourselves and can highly recommend it

You need to read up a little on the subject yourself via our guides or, for example, YouTube. Once you know what to choose, the rest is easy. The hard part with a CNC machine is learning the drawing software, the rest is pretty easy.
